Day 1. Materuni Waterfalls Day Trip

Your adventure begins in the morning when our friendly, English-speaking Rafiki Guide picks you up from your accommodation. From there, you’ll drive toward the charming Materuni Village. The final stretch of the journey takes you up a narrow, bumpy road surrounded by lush forest—an exciting prelude to your day.

Upon arrival, you’ll check in at the village office before setting off on your hike to the waterfall. The walk to Materuni Waterfall takes around 40 minutes and is only accessible on foot, adding a sense of adventure to the experience. As you walk, your guide will share stories about Chagga traditions, village life, and the local plants and wildlife. On clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro’s majestic summit.

When you reach the falls, you’ll be greeted by the sight of an 80-meter cascade plunging into a natural pool below. Bring your swimwear—the cool, fresh water is perfect for a dip. If you’re feeling brave, venture closer to the waterfall to experience the powerful spray and swirling mist—it’s an exhilarating moment you won’t forget.

Traditional Lunch & Coffee Experience

After soaking in the beauty of the falls, you’ll head back to the village where a warm Chagga lunch awaits. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample locally brewed banana beer, a unique and authentic taste of the region.

Next comes the coffee experience. Learn firsthand how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed in the traditional Chagga way. You’ll even get to take part—helping to grind the beans while singing and dancing to local songs.

To finish off the day, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee made from the beans you helped prepare—a rich and satisfying end to a truly immersive cultural experience.
